Puppy Training: The Essential Foundation for a Lifetime of Happy Tail-Wagging

Why you need a professional puppy trainer

Puppies – soft, warm, fluffy and funny – literally the cutest things ever. You’ve seen all the Instagram and Tik Tok videos and can’t wait for that kind of fun and enchantment.

Finally the day you’ve been waiting for arrives and your new puppy gets home, and that’s when the reality starts to sink in. Puddles of pee and little piles of poo on your carpets and rugs. Razor-like teeth that sink into the backs of your hands, feet and ankles. Lightening fast mouths that grab onto and want to chew your hair, your phone, your sleeves and your best cushions. Oh, and did I mention the sleepless nights, the standing out in the cold and rain praying your pup will toilet, and the endless scrolling on the internet looking for the right advice?

As a behaviourist sadly I get to see the worst of dog behaviour, and what’s heart breaking is how many dogs I see with issues that could have so easily been prevented with the right advice and input during puppyhood and adolescence. However, it has made me passionate about helping new puppy owners and led me to develop my proactive, personalised and unique one to one puppy training program.

Getting it right from the start

The right start for your puppy sets the foundation for a happy, healthy, and well-adjusted adult dog. It’s never too early to start; puppies are like sponges, soaking up everything around them. Every experience they have, every behaviour they exhibit, is laying the groundwork for their future as an adult dog. If you are prepared to spend the first year of your puppy’s life learning how to meet all of their needs, that’s when you can then ask them to spend the rest of their lives living up to your hopes and expectations of what you dreamed your puppy would turn into.

Ethical training

One of the most important aspects of my training program is ethics. Ethical training is about putting the welfare and well being of your puppy first. I strive to use the most up to date, evidence based, science led research and knowledge -there is no fluff or magic fixes in my training – just honest, practical support that’s tailored to your puppy’s individual needs. It’s my job to empower you with the tools and knowledge you need to help your new best friend thrive.

What you get from an ethical trainer

So, what can you expect from my One-to-One Puppy Training program? Firstly, we’ll start with a consultation, where we’ll get to know each other and discuss your puppy’s individual needs and your goals. We’ll then work together to create a personalised training plan that’s tailored to your puppy’s unique breed, personality, temperament, and learning style. My training methods are kind, positive, and force-free, which means I never use punishment or aversive techniques. Instead, I focus on positive reinforcement, using rewards such as treats, toys, and praise to encourage good behaviour.

During our training sessions, we’ll cover a range of essential skills, including toilet training, socialisation, life skills, obedience training, and much more. I’ll be there every step of the way, providing you with guidance, support, and feedback, to ensure that you and your puppy are making progress and enjoying the training process.

At the end of the program, you’ll not only be well on your way to understanding how to raise a well behaved and emotionally resilient dog, but you will also the knowledge and skills to continue training and developing your puppy’s behaviour long into the future. I’ll empower you with the tools and confidence you need to help your puppy reach their full potential and become the dog of your dreams.
